I think you answered your own question, in that most pros need a year round golf location to stay consistently sharp. That being said, I know a lot of people that have memberships to multiple clubs and will rotate to them based on seasonality.

Yep. There is private community in Annapolis, MD called Sherwood Forest that has a 9-hole course with small sand greens. You quickly learn you need to lay up a few yards short in order for your ball to stop on the green/sand.
